Resilient Me Benefit

Close your eyes. Now, think back to when you were 18 (come on, it wasn’t that long ago).
What were your dreams, fears, capabilities? Who did you have to rely upon as you grew into adulthood?

Ok you can open your eyes again (wait…how were you reading this?)

Over 800 youth ages 18-21 in Arizona will age out of foster care this year alone. Once they leave state care (and, honestly, before they leave state care) these youth won’t have a stable support system to help them navigate the complications of growing up, of developing health relationships, of learning how to love themselves. These youth also struggle with the impacts of trauma while they are also learning how to be an adult. The results are often homelessness, teen pregnancy, and incarceration.

ResilientMe was formed to provide critical resiliency skillsets to youth who will likely age out of this system on their own. Resiliency is the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties. Resiliency skillsets are not necessarily inherent; in fact, studies have shown they can be taught, learned, and strengthened. ResilientMe brings these skillsets to youth experiencing foster care in group homes so they can become productive, engaged, healthy adults.

Naketa Ross, ResilientMe’s Founder and Executive Director, was a product of the foster care system and knows firsthand the importance of combating trauma with resiliency skills. She has developed a 10 week curriculum for youth in group homes around the Valley to learn skills from the very practical, such as budget setting, to the more intangible but no less critical, such as identifying emotions and healthy coping habits. As a Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist, she draws workshop participants out of themselves to learn and prepare themselves to leave foster care. Using the Connor-Davidson Risk Tool, ResilientMe participants demonstrate a statistically-significant 12 point increase in resiliency skills after completing our workshops.

Please join us for a ResilientMe Happy Hour & Karaoke, and to get more information on how you can support these youth.
