NEW AND IMPROVED! HISTORIC PRESERVATION GRANTS ARE BACK!
City of Phoenix Exterior Rehabilitation Grants for historic homes are available again after a 5-year funding drought. Apply for the funds you need for a renovation or restoration project for your historic home. The process has been streamlined from past cumbersome requirements:
– Applications are submitted electronically (you no longer have to submit 12 copies and deliver them in person!);
– Only 1 bid is required for each work item; and
– You can apply for up to $20,000 for your project (the former limit was $10,000).
Important Points and Deadline Information:
In June, 2021 the City Council approved $200,000 for the Exterior Rehabilitation Grant Program;
Owners of historic homes in a city-designated historic district and/or listed on the Phoenix Historic Property Register are eligible to apply;
The City reimburses owners on a 50/50 matching basis for pre-approved work, i.e., reimbursement of $10,000 for rehabilitation/renovation work totaling $20,000.00.
The minimum reimbursement is $5,000, the maximum is $20,000.00.
In exchange for the grant, homeowners are required to enter into a 15-20-year conservation easement with the City of Phoenix, agreeing to protect the historic character of their home’s exteriors.
This is a competitive grant application process.
The application deadline is October 18, 2021 at 5:00 p.m.
