3rd/5th Avenue Construction Update
Published on 08/13/2024 • Posted in 3rd and 5th Avenues
Dear Willo Residents:
3rd Avenue:
As some of you already know, striping is underway on 3rd Avenue, which will probably take another week. Key points:
- The right side is the 2-way bike lanes.
- The middle/center lane will be the drive lane only.
- The left side will be limited parking.
3rd Avenue is northbound one way, one lane only
What is left:
- Stop sign installation at 3rd and Encanto Blvd.
- Finish striping of the transition from 1 lane to 2 lanes from Windsor into the Thomas Road intersection.
- Bollards: The original plan was to have NO BOLLARDS on 3rd Avenue, but with so many new staff members in the Streets Dept, I am not 100% sure of the Bollard usage. However, I am doing my best to ensure NO BOLLARDS, as was agreed upon almost three years ago. We all know the bollards did not work in Roosevelt.
Please be patient over the next week or so as we get used to revised driving patterns.
5th Avenue
Construction has begun on the Encanto Blvd/5th Avenue area and will continue. Construction on 5th Avenue will continue into the Fall of 2024. Please note: 5th Avenue has a different Contracting Construction Company than 3rd.
Gentle Reminder:
This project began seven years ago. It supports the Willo Conservation Plan, which the city approved over 35 years ago. The Conservation Plan is the foundational document of the Willo Historic District.
The Willo Treasury does NOT fund this project; these are your tax dollars at work.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who have worked on this project.
If you are new to the neighborhood or want a timeline for the 3rd/5th Avenue Project, please refer to www.willophx.com under 3rd/5th Avenue.
In closing:
I will provide updates as soon as I receive credible factual information to share.
Thanks for your patience and understanding.
Thanks for being part of Willo,
Bob Cannon
