Robust discussions were held at both the September and October Meetings on the matter of Dogtopia’s request for a Special Permit for indoor overnight boarding of pets at the proposed facility at corner of 5th Ave/McDowell. The City agreed to approve the permit with a one-year review period. Resident representatives from Almeria Street presented the Willo Board with 26 signatures on a petition opposing the special permit for the overnight boarding of pets. The fee for appeal was $1481.00 which was raised solely by the resident representatives of Almeria. The Willo Board voted 9 to 2, with one abstention, in support of the opposition, and the matter will now go before the Board of Adjustments for a final vote. An official letter from the Willo Neighborhood Association was filed with the Board of Adjustments to represent this support. Dogtopia will be allowed to operate its full scope of daytime pet care and services but will not be allowed to offer overnight boarding of pets until this issue is decided by the Board of Adjustments.
