June 15th, 2025 – Progress Updates

Published on 06/16/2025 • Posted in

3rd Avenue:

Please expect the 3rd/Encanto Blvd intersection to be revised to provide the driver more “room” to proceed through the curve, as up to 6 feet will be removed from the landscaped area. Expect this anywhere from July 1 to August 15th. Residential property, parking spaces, and easements WILL NOT be impacted.

The STOP signs will not be removed, as per the City’s protocol, to ensure safety.

As for the upcoming closure of 3rd/Encanto from June 23 to June 27 for utility (Southwest Gas) excavation, please look for more information in the coming days. I am waiting to be updated by the City. More to follow. Residential notices should be distributed.

5th Avenue:

Final striping is almost completed. I asked once again… The city plan is only in effect in the turn lanes at 5th and McDowell, so it prevents wrong turns. Also, I asked the City to review the painting schematics south of Encanto Boulevard at 5th to make the parking areas clearer.

Also, some may have noticed that the speed humps from Thomas to Encanto Blvd are inconsistent in shape, depth, and scope…and this will be corrected.

What is next?

  1. Initial discussions with the City regarding Edgemont to Thomas transition zones at 3rd into the Hospital area, as the Hospital is a major stakeholder in this area.
  2. Green/Landscape, etc… Now we will work with the City on incorporating “green areas or landscaping” as an element of the design process, as funding has become available. The initial focus will be Encanto Blvd and 5th to McDowell.

In closing, thank you to those who attended or were able to ZOOM in at last Thursday’s Board Meeting as I reviewed the above.

As a gentle reminder, this is Year 8 of this project, and the majority of the changes are almost completed.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the volunteers who have participated in the process over the years.

Not a single dollar of the funds for this project came from the Willo Treasury.

Thank you for supporting the Willo Conservation Plan and being part of Willo.
