April 26th, 2025 – Quick 3rd/5th Avenue Update

Published on 06/16/2025 • Posted in

5th Avenue update from the City of Phoenix Streets Dept:

Here is the update for next week on 5th Avenue. Next week, the striping and signage operations will begin. This may take a few weeks to complete. After stripping is complete, the contractor, ViaSun, will proceed with completing the delineators along the bike lane and any other minor work to finalize the project. Thank you for bearing with us through this final stretch.

Side Note: I have also asked them (Streets Dept) yesterday to ensure the following:

  1. Striping clearly marked at 5th McDowell for drivers to follow proper lane flow (we will still have idiot drivers)
  2. Ensure the speed humps on 5th are consistent in depth and height.
  3. Confirmed stop signs will be installed at 5th Avenue/Encanto Boulevard.

Now onto 3rd Avenue Update:

The Encanto Boulevard 3rd Avenue area is being considered by the City for modification in some capacity. When I see the plans, I will let everyone know. For now, it is under discussion by the City. I do not know specifics yet.

Gentle Reminder:

  1. We have been working on this project for eight years now, since it began.
  2. Funding DOES NOT come from the Willo Neighborhood.
  3. Our Willo Streets are public streets within the City of Phoenix.
  4. History is on willophx.com under 3rd/5th.
  5. I am very thankful that we have secured funding for this project in previous years. As I am not sure we would ever see any funding, with our current State Legislators’ desire to eliminate local zoning and protect historic districts for the sake of density and affordable housing. It makes no sense. We now have a fight on our doorstep. See Sandra’s post on the AZ Republic interview if you are not sure what I am referring to.

Thank you for supporting Willo and our Willo Conservation Plan, which is now under assault.
